Antoinette K-Doe passes on Mardi Gras
Antoinette K-Doe, widow of the legendary Ernie K-Doe aka Emperor of the Universe. She passed early on this beautiful Mardi Gras day at the age of 66 from an apparent heart attack.
“Miss Antoinette” was the owner of the Mother-in-Law Lounge in New Orleans, a pub and shrine to her late husband. Antoinette acted a spokesperson for Hands on Network, a volunteer organization dedicated to Hurricane Katrina relief. Antoinette herself was rescued from the Mother-in-Law Lounge after being stranded by flood waters for 7 days and she was passionate about the rebuilding of this great city that she loved so much.
Friends and family said it was fitting that K-Doe passed away on a holiday she loved so much and they honored her memory by continuing the celebrations that Mardi Gras day. They say it was something she would have wanted.
A wake will be held today, Fri. Feb 27, from 2-7pm at the Mother in Law Lounge. Services will be held Sat. @ St. James Methodist Church, 1925 Ursulines Ave. at 11am. Visitation from 9am-11am. Following services there will be a second line to St. Louis #2 on N. Claiborne Ave, where the body of Antoinette will join Ernie K-Doe in rest. A musical celebration and repast will take place at Rock-n-Bowl from 1:30pm - 6:30pm. At 7pm, guests are invited to join a Remembrance of Antoinette at the Mother in Law Lounge.
